Sao Hin Temple School
About
In Chiang Mai, the Wat Sao Hin School was built almost 100 years ago in 1923. It is a public government school and part of a Buddhist temple, which provides their students an opportunity to study in a very peaceful atmosphere right in between cultural and historical buildings.
The Northern Thai dialect is the first language of the students and teachers. The teachers in that school are unable to speak proper English. As a result the students are not able to communicate in English, even after studying for about 6 years. The children cannot read, write and speak; however, they can name each letter of the ABCs. Without good qualified teachers and financial support these children will be not able to learn a second language or reach international standard of language skills in the future. This will have a big influence on the job opportunities. They desire both to learn and a safe space so they will be able to leave their current situation permanently in the future. Pray for the physical safety for the children, for their guardians, and that we will have continued opportunities to step into the darkness of their lives.
Currently, the school has 186 children and 14 teachers. When the students finish class 6 they leave and go to high school.
